French forces push north in the Balkans as Italian and Albanian fronts pause. Reports describe enemy retreat in Albania with limited rear guards and scattered war matériel left behind. Dispatches note population hostility and ongoing Allied movement in the region.
London July 13 Haig reported a minor operation by the British and Australian forces between Vieux Berquin and Morris on the Flanders front resulted in 96 prisoners and a few machine guns. British casualties were slight. The night raid north of Hamel yielded 22 prisoners. An enemy raid north of Meitom was repelled amid artillery exchanges near Hamel and in the Strateio area.
At Murman coast a counter redlutonista surrounded a group of 2000 Polaheviki who had just arrived, disarmed them and allowed their return to Moscow.
Hermiston Oregon July 1 For refusing to pay a 110 water charge Furnas allegedly refused to pay the town of Hermiston the water bill and broke a lock on the irrigation conduit. He is charged in recorder and valley court. The water was turned off after his refusal to pay and a new lock was placed on the gate. Furnas is accused of breaking the lock turning water onto his land. The council notified the marshal to place a new lock with J T Watson assisting the marshal. Furnas reportedly drew a shovel during a verbal dispute. Trial is set for July 3 in recorder court and will continue in justice court.
London reports weather again disrupted operations on July 11 and 12. Five German airplanes were shot down by British forces, three British aircraft were lost, and nine tons of bombs were dropped. Three enemy airfields were bombed, starting two fires, while British forces engaged trains with machine gun fire.
General Pershing personally decorated 17 of 32 officers and men of the New England division with the Distinguished Service Cross in France. He praised the unit for its excellent work in the Lorraine line as winds swept the battlefield yesterday and last night.
