Water Shortage in Pendleton Grows Urgent
Water in Pendleton is extremely scarce with only two feet in the city reservoir at 8 am while seven to eight feet are needed for irrigation and fire protection. Residents demand increased pumping and a full reservoir, and officials consider extending the river intake as a temporary measure. Public opinion favors a gravity water system from the mountains despite cost. The issue threatens lawns, homes, and property with fire risk, and northern areas report the worst water pressure yet.

They previously worked without a schedule with the W. & C. Ro and during the transfer of that line to the Northern Pacific they were considering a request for a schedule and possibly a wage raise, but the transfer removed that need.
