Bhadko July 15 reports Mitchell wiped out by a cloudburst twenty eight houses and several barns destroyed. The known dead are Mia Bethven age 60 and Martin Smith age 91 with one man missing. Portland notes Mitchell county seat of Wheeler county nearly destroyed yesterday and no further deaths reported beyond those named.

In 1874 Samuel Hannah deeded county court house grounds to Union with a condition that title revert to Hannah heirs when the property ceases to be used for county purposes.
