Law proposed to punish Indians for liquor to curb bootlegging
A bill introduced in Congress by Senator Wesley L. Jones would make it a crime for an Indian to accept or solicit liquor, with fines up to 100 dollars or up to 60 days in jail. The measure follows a Spokane federal grand jury report linking persistent Indian demand to bootlegging and noting that most bootlegging cases involved liquor sold to Indians. The jury also found government spotters influenced much bootlegging.
