Butter Reaches Highest Point In Five Years
Portland reports local wholesale butter at 28 cents a pound, a rise of one and a half cents, the highest for this season in five years. Buttermakers attribute the increase to reduced cream output from dry May and June, strong demand, and population growth. Last year’s standard city creamery butter sold at 20 cents, while 1905 and 1906 figures reached 2 1/2 cents, with prices under the present level.
