Devastating Flood Ravages Town and Homes

The storm wrecked streets on the North Side and washed out cellars and fences. Homes along South Main Street suffered severe damage as sewers and arched passages collapsed. At the Lindsay property a canyon formed, threatening collapse of the house and yard. Urban and rural roads were impassable with debris and rising waters, while Rev. Gillett to Begin Long Threshing Run at Fancher Place

Veteran threshing machine man W Gillett, who has threshed grain across Umatilla county and Palouse country, will start on the Fancher place north of Pendleton tomorrow. Three thousand acres have been contracted, with more added as harvest peaks. He’ll use a new outfit with three headers to run a 1200 acre header and thresh twelve hundred seres.

In a Walla Walla game the Pendleton Stars lost to the Walla Walla Wonders eight to four. Earlier La Grande Holy Terrors swept Pendleton with seven to one, fourteen to four, and a final 16 to 14 victory, signaling a crushing skid for Pendleton during the La Grande series.

Norge Sinks with 700 Aboard in Atlantic Tragedy

Buckleys from Mosier on Norge voyage

Anna and Elizabeth Buckley, once residents of Mower near The Dalles Oregon, traveled via the Norge with plans to walk by the ship on return. They had lived in Mosier Seattle and Oregon prior, then moved to Spokane avenue in this city and later toured Europe. Twenty seven survivors of the Norge siege sailed for Boston on the Saxonia, with more to follow as arrangements allow. An anniversary note recalls the La Bourgogne disaster with 738 aboard, only 16 saved and one woman survivor, marking one of the era’s most shocking sea tragedies.
