July 4 London reports the British dirigible 4 is about 260 miles off Newfoundland coast at morning Greenwich time. The position shows the craft veered southward and may head toward the eastern coast of Newfoundland. A Thei4wan note places it 200 miles off Newfoundland and 325 miles northeast of St John, bowling south.
City council special meeting legalizes boxing tonight at Oregon Theater with a boxing commission. Guy Matlock W M H Sheehan and Dr George H King named to the commission. Frankie Louth and Buddy Brevenr lightweight main event in a ten round bout. Portland's Louth and local boy Brevenr clash as revival of boxing returns after years ban. Two preliminaries list Perry vs Sailor Gwenn six rounds and Quinnivan vs Morris for 160 pounds, with doors at 7:30 and bout at 8:30.
London July 4 Former German Kaiser to be charged with violation of Belgian neutrality and will face trial. Five judges from the United States Britain France Italy and Japan will preside as allies back Holland’s handover to a new committee to frame the procedure. No precedent exists for such a trial amid shifting war accountability debates.
City council upheld a noiseless anti firecracker ordinance though fireworks were not yet carried out. Chief Roberts announced patrols to curb violations. No fireworks pageant is planned. only itinerant commemoration is expected with limited displays from Main Street.
A collision near the hospital left H. Gates badly injured and two cars severely damaged requiring two hours to free them. Police say Louis Chalife and companions drove recklessly at about 10 o clock with drinking suspected. One arrest for drunk and disorderly conduct followed. reports of a woman’s injury could not be confirmed by the hospital.
Lancaster County officials paused June lumber payments while investigators review price chiefly set by area dealers. Commissioners Marah and Dunn say prices appear inflated and vow to press for fair figures before Warrants are honored.
County workers demand salary increases citing living cost and better private offers. Proposals range from 1 to 15 percent though no figures are set. Sheriff’s office lists deputies at 195.10 and 120, clerk 125, stenographer 85, and other offices with varied pay. Only the master keeper signed the petition.
A man waiting for a Rickard arena battle ticket was pickpocketed after 4:30 near Riverside park. The 40 year old Harocarter, son of a Montbhelier grocer, did not report the theft and instead begged for another ticket as crowds paid high prices for entry.
In Toledo today heavyweights Jess Willard and Jack Dempsey prepare for a scheduled twelve round bout. Willard, 28, champion of the world, expresses confidence while Dempsey, 21, vows to seize the title. A large crowd is expected as officials and bettors discuss odds and arrangements for the event at the Toledo Boxing Club arena.
The East Oregonian reports today at noon that a policy change affects the Willard-Dienp affair and prevents a planned marriage. A report will be balleted this afternoon at the Coxy store and published in tomorrow’s edition.
Sheriff T D Taylor returned from Miller City Montana with Robert Grant who faces a charge of stealing the Hudson car owned by J B McCick. The vehicle was taken from in front of the Orecon theater on April 14 and found in Miles City on June 25. Grant reportedly pled not guilty as the recovered car was returned to Mr Metwek who had recently purchased the car.

Pendleton opens postwar Independence Day with a mile long parade of service men marines and civilians drawing cheers. Hundreds fill streets as bands, floats, and the Junior Red Cross receive applause while the city anticipates future events including a pipe band and automobile contests.
Bands march at Round-up with events starting 1 pm including 140 yd dash for all ages with prizes 19 and 5 dollars. Boys under 13 run 50 or 60 yards with 3 and 2 dollar prizes. Girls under 12 50 yards with 2 dollar prizes. Boys under 16 run 450 yards with 7 and 2 dollar prizes. Girls under 16 13 and 2 dollars. Free for all races with 7.5 and 2.5 dollars. Patman's free 206 pounds and over sixguard prizes 4 and 2.5 dollars. Potato race free for all prizes 5 and 2.5 dollars. Rack race free for all prizes 5 and 2.5 dollars. Three-legged race free for all prizes 4 and 2.5 dollars. Men relay teams Athena Weston and Peraleton 440 yards with 24 dollar prize. Dancing at 2 pm near Happy Canyon. Admission free, prize 725 dollars. Motorcycle races 9:90 pm, hill round-track poles 25 dollars. Evening concert on street by Milton Hand 7 to 9 pm. Waterfight on Main Street. Dancing 9 pm on Main Street and Liberty Hall 9 pm. Happy Canyon 6 o'clock.
The Spirit of 70 event in Pendleton faced a delay as costumes failed to arrive. Bob Fletcher personally investigated and found a misaddressed package at the East Oregonian post, mistaken for a delivery to the Eastern Oregon State Hospital. Flags and French, English and Belgian emblems are visible as local observances proceed. Veteran John Garmiane, 45, a Civil War era I A R member, attended events but his age and injuries marked his service. The celebration aims to honor Tetcod era participants as Walla Walla continues Fourth of July rites.
