Umatilla man Alex M. Donald buys a 1917 Saxon Six touring car from Round Up City Auto Co of Pendleton. Trade includes details of the sale and the dealership, amid several local notices and court items.
Arthur H. Jarred files in efrevit court for divorce from Olive Jarred and seeks custody of their child. He accuses her of violent language and habitual leaving. Married Ringrene on November 28, 1912. W. M. Peterson represents the plaintiff.
Four through trains from the east arrived in Pendleton today as a four day blockade on the Union Pacific is broken. The first train came about 2 am with others following at 6 am, 1 pm, and 2 pm. The blockade is ended for now but the railroad offers no guarantee it will stay open long.
A Salem dispatch to the East Oregonian reports that in the case of B W McComas respondent versus Northern Pacific Railway Co the supreme court has modified its opinion on a motion for rehearing Justice Moore writing the modification The court had recently recognized McComas title to the whaler’s island but the motion for rehearing was entered.
In Tacoma BP Averill hears a city hunter claim Amber wolves menace stock in Mt Hallmor Park. Ben Longmire of Brogan Ore, a former Maud hunter, says timber wolves are scarce and have caused no damage for eight or nine years. He notes guides exaggerate dangers to keep clients near camp.
The Clerical Creak, four page mimeographed sheet, issued by Pendleton High School students in the commercial department, sold about a hundred copies yesterday. The monthly paper, edited and printed on mimeograph by students, covers department work, school notes, editorials, and jokes. Ming Luria Rarer is editor, Dan Bell manager, with four assistant editors and an assistant manager. Each class will have a reporter. A recent advertising campaign sparked strong student interest. Work also began on scenery for the operetta Princes Bulbol to be presented soon by the high school talent.
A fire sale auction in Raton set a daily record with $500000 in total bids. Silver fox pelts led the market with $105000, while individual skins reached $910. Notable prices included $1460 for a skin and another at $1500, with clove and quick bidding among the highlights.
United States Steel has declared an extra dividend of one and three quarter per cent on common stock in a New York report dated January 20.
