In Olympia Washington January 27 a vote of 92 to 0 passed Ole Hansen anti race track gambling bill in the house. Hansen delivered a forceful 30 minute speech detailing ruin from gambling and embezzlement. Senate approved a measure for another superior judge in King County after a bitter fight. An amendment to postpone action until February 4 failed.
Fernie Jan 27 An explosion in the Morissey mines near here today entombed 20 men. Rescue teams expect to reach and remove them through another entrance as the effort continues.
San Francisco file says Battling Nelson proposes a title shot after a bout between Packey McFarland and Freddie Welsh. If the two settle supremacy within 60 days the winner earns a crack at the light weight champion. Nelson sent a letter urging the arrangement.
Husum Washington Leo Brune owner of large bands of sheep near Granddalles plans a foot chase roundup of coyotes along a 15 mile circuit on the south side of the mountain north of Granddalles. Eight men per mile will drive from the mountain top to the river with dogs and guns to block all escapes. Brune seeks to exterminate the whole pack after coyotes harmed his flocks and invites hunters from Klickitat county and Wasco county to join.
The House unanimously adopted a committee report expunging Representative Willett of New York’s January 19 speech attacking Roosevelt. The report affirms free speech in debate but condemns personal abuse, noting the right of members to criticize officials is subject to decorum rules. Willett warns that removing the speech would set a dangerous precedent.

Seattle, January 27. Alvin Banks a 38 year old stone mason, crazed by whiskey and debauch, attempted to cut his throat with a shard of broken glass this morning. He is dying in a hospital.
San Francisco January 27. Eight jurors chosen for the Patrick Calhoun bribery trial. Fourteen men questioned this morning but excused. Calhoun, president of United Railways, accused of offering a bribe to the doodling board of supervisors.
