The Portland Journal reports B H Harriman favors the Des Chutes route to Bend Crook county Oregon, with work likely starting in spring The line would cost about 4 million and bring a grade nearly all down to the Columbia A second route via Corvallis Eastern would cost 2 million with a steeper 22 grade The third option extends the Columbia Southern from Shaniko at about 1 2 million but involves multiple grades and is less favored The Ontario to Portland line is surveyed to connect and enable down grade to Portland and faster eastern service

Hypnotism Recalls Memory Of Wandering New Yorker
New Haven. Charles Osten of New York, held at Grace hospital since December 10, was placed under hypnosis by Dr Allan R Deffendorf. He recalled living on Forty second street and two years in San Francisco after arriving from Germany and named a New York lace maker he used to work for. Authorities seek his relatives. He later failed to recall more after waking. A minor trephination of the skull was performed to relieve head injury.
