A freight depot and saloon were hit in a night raid with a safe opened and money missing. Tools were stolen and dynamite used, but no one was captured and several workers noted attempts at entry and disturbances around Freewater and Milmoa. Police and creditors’ actions tied to local industry were also mentioned, with no clear suspect identified.
Pleasant Armstrong, already familiar to Baker County jail from a prior disturbance at a Methodist social, sparked a scare in Haines. He had 15 days served three years ago for disrupting a social, and this time was arrested, tried, and fined 3 dollars with 45 days in jail for the offense.
The seventy third annual exhibition of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts opens in Philadelphia on January 2 and runs until March. Committees appointed to run the Christ uo Endeavor convention to meet at Mrs A Lowels home this evening to report progress. Tomorrow Professor J T Ray Jones invites interested singers to join the convention chorus as rehearsals and drills begin with plans to assemble a large choir for the event.
In police court Jenae Parr was fined 95 for being drunk on Saturday night. Dan Hert pleaded guilty to lewd cohabitation with Rosa Bowman at a lodging house, was fined 1 and costs, and paid his fine.
Galveston plans to raise the city grade to sea level with a canal from the bay, 200 feet from the seawall. Goodhart and Bates of New York won the contract at 0.16 per cubic yard for about 11,00000 cubic yards. The project aims to raise the grade seven feet, costing near 2,000,000 funded by bonds. Engineers Richd and Hoschke recommended the award. Mr and Mrs Van Puymbroeck plan a European trip leaving from New York.

L G Adames was arrested in Vincennes Indiana on a Chicago Fe quest for selling bogus mining stocks to Seattle and Portland. He was previously held up and charged in Chicago by the Hawkers' Association. Adames faces legal action on similar charges in Chicago.
