A Washington Oregon company plans a whirlwind campaign starting next Monday morning to raise $50,000 by February 1. The contract calls for rapid fundraising with some obstacles noted. Directors signed a contract and bond, reflecting commitment and urgency for success.
Pendleton investors would take 50000 stock in the Willington Oregon Traction Company with staged payments of 20000 after three miles of road, 26000 after six miles, and 10000 upon electrification within two years. The plan includes six miles of track, a park investment of at least 10000, spending 200000 regionally in two years, and to place a Pendleton director on the board. Directors sign bonds to back subscriptions or repay in value. Contract becomes effective February 1 if the 50000 is raised.
Pendleton Commercial association traction committee plans to start a $50,000 stock subscription to fund the Washington Oregon traction project. The agreement with the Washington Oregon Traction Company covers six miles of railway within a year, park development worth $10,000, electric power development, and a 15 minute street and interurban service, with possible extensions and delay provisions.

In New York on January 21 Jack Johnson, the challenger for the heavyweight title, is due in court to answer an assault charge brought by Norman Pinder. Pinder alleges Johnson struck him after inviting him to drink wine at a cafe. Johnson, held on $1000 bail, spent hours in jail before release.
A man identified as the Tone Bandit received a sentence of four and a half years in the Oregon State Penitentiary after being found guilty on a charge linked to the Saint Tone incident in July last year. Judge Butler imposed the sentence this afternoon after a three day trial and deliberation by the jury.
At the Los Angeles aviation carnival the Curtiss and Paulhan endurance race captivated spectators. Curtiss surged ahead to win by a nose, covering 64.4 miles in under two hours, while Paulhan claimed other events including cross country and endurance. After voting he returned home. Mr Fills is suffering from crip and indigestion and not in condition to attend to public duties. Friends have advised him to remain at home while he recovers.

They claim control of about 290000 acres with 150000 already optioned for 14000000 dollars. If realized the group would hold a large stake in the nation’s coal output.
