Three men perished and one was seriously hurt as the Rows Hotel burned in Portland. Victims A Hurt, Pricet Marquette, and Tom Lavari er died, while residents fled in nightclothes or jumped to safety. A naked woman was rescued as the blaze raged, and two bodies were found crouched near the stairway.
Battalion Chief Fred C. Gilham died at the Grand Theatre fire in Seattle as the roof collapsed and debris buried him. Nine others were injured and rescuers searched for more victims. Fire crews reportedly directed men to move a hose toward the pool before Gilham disappeared under debris.
Pendleton will be represented at the annual midwinter ice carnival in St Paul later this month. Local delegates plan a lively display to promote the Round Up. Le BH. Tierney and J. M.
