Returned from the East Asa Moore Tells of Missouri Home Visit

Asa Moore of Milton reports five weeks visiting his old Missouri home after crossing the plains from Cameron in 1879. He left Milton in the 1880s and now says crops are good, prices high, and farmers prosperous in his new world. Travel east by Union Pacific was delayed by engine withdrawals and congestion, with westbound trains to Denver crowded. Moore also visited Newton Kansas and Pawnee County Oklahoma but remains loyal to Milton wheat farming in Oregon’s mountain shadows.

Wool Pooling Aims to Boost Oregon Wool Prices

Wallowa County Woolgrowers Association met in Joseph and agreed to pool the 1903 wool clip and not sell before July 1. The plan, used in The Dalles and Shaniko, raises prices by drawing bids from buyers while protecting members from broker price cuts. Sheepmen will haul wool to Elgin or Wallowa bridge warehouses, ending individualized sales and mimicking Crook and Wasco practices. The Daily East Oregonian is sold in Portland at Rich Nye stand and Hotel Perkins and Hotel Portland.
