In Hilletore Oregon on January 13 the circuit court readies for the Kennedy trial. Rev RR H Kennedy faces charges of burglary and tying in to the Warren residence on September 1. The publicized case is billed as the most sensational in Northwestern Oregon history. Prosecutor Tome and defense counsel Hirsten prepare as jurors are recalled for the trial opening tomorrow.
Governor Warfield’s inaugural address pledges party aims and state aid for education. A military escort, militia units, Baltimore cadets, and Johns Hopkins cadets attended the ceremony at the capitol. Chief Judge McSberry administered the oath to the new governor.
The twelfth annual National Commission Merchants convention opened in Louisville Kentucky with about 300 delegates from Baltimore Cleveland Cincinnati New York Chicago and Boston represented. Topics included best methods to receive and distribute food products and granting authority to the Interstate Commerce Commission to regulate rail traffic. W B Gavan of Baltimore presided with secretary A Warren Patch of Boston. The event will run through Saturday.

Delegates number eight hundred fifty as forest reserve policy sparks debate and debate shifts to transport costs, stockyard charges, and five year livestock censuses.
Miotewpedin Sinn reports the annual Minnesota Poultry Show begins with a morning opening and public display day at the Minnesota Poultry Show Association. Notable guests include Adl Wadner and future speakers, with hundreds of exhibitors and diverse birds. Burglarry report: G W Conler, recently released from jail, arrested with a companion carrying burglar tools. both ordered to leave town.
Columbus Ohio January 13 Marcus A Hanne was reelected United States Senator by the Ohio state legislature in joint session. The action confirms Hanne in the federal capital role following days of deliberation by both houses.
A fragmented report notes Senator Hanan secured a narrow majority of nine. John M. Currie of Cleveland received the united democratic vote amid the weakly legible polling.
New York January dates report E. Ingalls president of the Big Four railway sails for Europe today. He plans an extensive tour of southern Europe and Egypt and will not return to America until late May.

The Cres delegation urged President to appoint Albert A Roberts of Heppner as receiver at La Grande with wider support across the state. Roberts, a former deputy U S marshal under Zoe Houser, is a half brother of Judge W H Fils and a long time Republican. He had been proposed for land office register before the Davis appointment.
Salem January 13 Captain Samuel White district attorney appeared before the supreme court opposing the attorneys of Pleasant Armstrong condemned to be hanged in Baker City January 22 for murder. Attorneys seek certificate of probable cause to stay execution pending appeal arguing the death warrant and method violate new laws ex post facto and that execution cannot proceed. Cage argued this afternoon and will doubtless be decided in due time.
Pendleton High School hosts Baker City High School in the first girls basketball game in the city, refereed by Professor Roy Conklin. Pendleton’s team, coached by Willis Masters, has trained to compete strongly while Baker City’s squad is described as capable and well prepared, with both sides aiming for victory in a well controlled event.
At the Arkansas State Horticultural Society annual convention in Van Buren on January first the second day featured talks on Strawberry Culture by Jaculs Baer Judsonia and The Agricultural Zone of Arkansas by H N Newlin Little Rock. Town finances show unusual expenditures from sewer work and incidental costs. Two mill street tax proposed with total tax income forecast around 13.6 million dollars next year, plus poll tax additions. Last year’s deficit largely due to sewer construction, despite higher income. City plans higher levy for streets and general funds to cover ongoing expenses and future sewer-related costs.

In Postal Fraucis New York on January 14 former Congressman Drigga paid a $10,000 fine and served one day in jail. He was released at 6:00 in the morning and greeted by friends who drove him away in a carriage. The one was promptly paid.
