Pendleton reports that Right Reverend Ethelbert Talbot, bishop of Central Pennsylvania, is accused by Rev Ingram Irvine of unfrocking Irvine without cause amid a claimed conspiracy with Mrs Elliot, a divorced woman. Chicago January 8 The Interstate Commerce Commission plans to ask the United States circuit court to issue subpoenas for J J Hill Harriman and other railroad magnates to compel their appearance and testimony about the Northwestern railroad merger or face contempt penalties. The investigation was postponed to January 24 after they refused to appear.
Representative Hull, chair of the House military affairs committee, said there would be no move this session for revision of the army organization or for any board general legislation affecting the army. He noted several special bills may arise, including plans from an army board on four large cantonments for the regular army and a retirement measure with War Department recommendations.
