Pendleton police say Kirkwood was arrested after a charge of larceny from the person connected to Jack Dillon of La Grande. The incident began at the Queen lodging house where Dillon, after soliciting money, was robbed of a dollar and a diamond ring during an apparent drunken encounter. Dillon had previously paid a police officer $20 and left a diamond for safekeeping.
Word reaches here of the death in Tibet of Francie Ho Nicholn a Den ver Poet who left New York on March 27 1903 and sought the Tibetan frontier with Chinese companions after earlier war service in the Spanish American conflict. He planned to reach Lhasa with help from the American Geographical Society and funds for famine relief.
A Pendleton led townette excursion departs January 23 from Walla Walla for Jalinto near Mexico City to inspect land schemes. Tickets cost 25 dollars for a drawing that promises a town lot or acreage. most expect no payoff. About 230 to 250 excursionists from Walla Walla Lewiston and Pomeroy plan to join a four week rail tour via Los Angeles to Southern Mexico.
Members of the Japanese Colony in Pendleton hold a celebration after news of Port Arthur’s fall. About 30 men of the Chleety group gathered on Garden Street and at the yardian track. A banquet with beer, oranges, pie, sandwiches followed by a Japanese concert marked the event with enthusiastic singing of national songs.
Henry Kopitke secured a government contract to furnish 290 cords of seasoned cord wood for the Umatilla Agency. Delivery must occur within 70 days. The price was not made public and Kopitke won over several bidders.
A tidal event battered the east coast of Bneg with waves at Yarmmath washing over marine structures and damaging the sea wall at Cleo thorpe. The incident caused effects in Beare borough, Dower and Sheerness with reported imprisonments and elevated danger along the shore.
