New York politicians believe Taft can secure the New York delegation by meeting with state GOP chair Otto Barnard and central committee head Barnes. Barnard, a strong Taft supporter, plans a conference soon and is expected to announce his backing for Taft’s renomination.
Oyster Bay January 4 Colonel Roosevelt again refused to discuss politics and would make no statement until he is ready. Taft and La Follette leaders seek clarity on his plans, but no timeline is given and the decision may come later.
Senator La Follette left Chicago for Joliet this morning and boarded the Interurban to travel through several Illinois towns delivering speeches as part of his campaign in India.

J Roy Raley and James H Gwinn of the Round-Up association announce plans to stage a winter frontier show in Los Angeles. The Portland formed company, backed by Oregon capital and rail interests, has secured a ranch option near Los Angeles and will enlist Raley and Gwinn in leading roles. The move follows consultations in Portland and Los Angeles with promoters, and loyalty to the Round-Up will be declared if Los Angeles conditions prove favorable.

At Lisbon on January 4 a government order to expel Monsignor Bello sparked a clash as 10,000 Catholics gathered at his residence. Five thousand Republicans assaulted the demonstrators shouting anti papacy and anti monarchy chants amid expectations of further expulsions.
Senator Hitchcock of Nebraska condemned the Taft arbitration treaties as a plan to entangle the United States with England. He warned they could lead to an alliance against Germany, trigger disputes and diplomatic arrangements that would hurt American interests. He cited Sir Edward Grey’s remarks on possible U S England cooperation in quarrels with other nations.
The Oregon Agricultural College glee club visits Pendleton February 22 and will be welcomed by the local O A C association with a reception at Eagles Woodman hall after the Oregon theatre performance. The event doubles as the county reunion and includes dancing and invitations to students and music lovers. C G Brownell is re elected president with Walter Waggoner and Rosas BE Wimner re elected secretary and treasurer.
Col. J. H. Raley warns Birch and McKay Creek farmers to file carefully on water rights to avoid jeopardizing old rights. He notes some may lose by pursuing additional water, and advises filings only for lands with no prior rights while stating current filings lie west of Birch Creek and do not threaten old rights.
