The Pendleton council has elected a marshal and recorder to succeed the incumbents Heathman and Beam. The mayor supports the council’s decision and urges acceptance to maintain order, arguing continued resistance would erode government and cause chaos. The letter stresses obedience to law and the need to move past the late disputes.
Mr. B Campbell long head of Oregon Railroad and Navigation traffic named assistant traffic manager for Harriman lines with Chicago HQ. He is a seasoned rail man, trusted and honest, and his departure leaves Oregon and the O R & N short a key leader. His successor will face a tough post and high expectations in maintaining the railroad’s standards.
City leaders argue that owners acting together caused irregular sidewalks and poor streets. Webb street, once the best in Pendleton, now lies deteriorated with a railroad track raised in the middle. Immediate work is demanded, with consideration given to rerouting the rail line for better accommodations. Citizens could assist with council support to restore the street to its former standing.
