O.R. & N. Changes Time Of Mixed Train 41 Schedule

The Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company announces a revised timetable for mixed branch train No. 41 from Walla Walla, effective February 25. The route now leaves Walla Walla at 10:00 am, with stops at Blue Mountain, Downing, Weston, Athena, Adama, and Eastland, arriving Pendleton at 1:30 pm. The No. 42 evening train schedule remains unchanged.

Strain to Issue New Edition of Pamphlet on Rail Road Assessments

County Assessor C P Strain reports strong demand for his pamphlet on railroad assessments issued three months ago. Orders pour in from the Northwest including Washington where assessors recently held a convention on higher railroad assessments. A larger edition will be published to meet ongoing interest from Farmers clubs granges county officials newspapers and others interested in taxation. The pamphlet has prompted thorough investigation of the subject across the Northwest.

Ruth Olcott seven to eight? years old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Olcott, died at home at 2 pm after a two week illness. The family moved to the city last fall from a ranch to access schooling. Last Meeting of School Board Debates Fire Safety Fixes

The board reviewed past month accounts and faced a 24 hour ultimatum from Fire Chief W A Withee to fix unsafe old academy building heater pipes and stove connections or shut the buildings. Lloyd department teaching by W W Le Masters may be discontinued without a permit renewal after the next exam.

Government will not reimpose corn laws, Ritcale states

London February 19 in the house of commons the Chancellor of the Exchequer Ritcale said the government has no plan to restore last year’s corn laws. He cited treasury needs and broad public opposition, noting majorities against Chamberlain candidates at recent by elections led to abandoning the plan.
