Washington Feb 12 Senator La Follette offered a joint resolution prohibiting arming American ships while the United States is peaceful. He urged delaying discussion until a suitable war oppor tunity and urged restraint amid growing tension over merchant marine armament.
A telephoned warning from Rev J. Corlett announced the sudden death of Rev Maxis Monteith of Kaminh Idaho a well known Indian minister in the northwest He had been leading revival meetings at Tutudila where many Indians attended Parsons Metanic Allan Patawa Rev William Wherior and Rev Peter Lindsey had travelled to the meetings The message noted his sudden passing during the morning and his work among the Tmatla reservation community
In Salem Oregon the House barred lobbyists from the chamber during a vote on public property purchases. The Lewis bill to regulate such purchases failed, while Jenner’s proposal to cap the Oregon Agricultural College president’s salary at five hundred dollars a year passed.
Kart Cwreenion Sperdal, the first man to erect a house in Athena, died Saturday at home at age about 80. Survived by wife and four children, including Clemene F. Kidder and Mrs WW Kidder. Funeral from Athens Baptist Church Tuesday at 1 pm, service by Moone.
The Anchor liner California sailing from New York January 29 bound for Glasgow was sunk off the coast of Ireland by German submarines. Reports say no Americans were aboard. about fifty or sixty passengers or crew were lost. Built in Glasgow in 1907 the California weighed 4 62 tons and carried a 74 inch stern gun.
