A railroad blockade strands scores of travelers in Pendleton overnight and into days, filling hotels as guests from Hood River to Portland and beyond await revival of service. The train halt forces many westbound passengers to seek shelter, with Ottawa reports and arrivals listing numerous names and home cities while the railroad covers hotel expenses for stranded riders.
