In St Petersburg 50 000 troops are due to reinforce Vladivostok this February amid mobilization. Dispatches claim Japan seeks to destabilize Korea to justify intervention. Pekin reports Korea minister recalled as tensions rise.
Lewiston Feb 2 petitions from Salmon City urge Congress to appropriate 5000 dollars to improve Salmon River. Similar petitions are circulating in Lemhi and Mahone counties. Advocates cite wide national benefits from the river project in detail.
Mr and Mrs Williams of Mountain Home took their daughter to Portland after a bone fragment from a poof steak lodged in her eye. Doctors in Pendleton advised removal. the family hopes a specialist in Portland can save the eye.

Portland Feb 2 Special to the East Oregonian Judge Belllanger of the U S court appointed T C Taylor of Pendleton receiver of the C B Wade estate until creditors appoint trustees to manage the business. The property has had no legal in charge since trustees were removed, and the appointment provides a responsible person to safeguard the assets until settlement.
Delegates numbering several hundred from main United States cities attend the Merchant Tailors National Exchange convention in Atlantic City New Jersey. President Harvey A Patterson of New York outlines plans for the St Louis exhibition. Samuel H Spring of Boston reports rising membership and solid treasury balance. Rochester and other cities are vying to host next year’s convention.
