A party from Philadelphia led by Mrs. Martin Lane and including Clarence Lane George F Justin and Dr. Thomas Thurston returned from eastern Oregon content with Malheur county conditions. They carried fruit corn potatoes and alfalfa samples and irrigation data with affidavits from Oregon irrigationists endorsing yields and potential.
Four Philadelphia observers journeyed 12 days to inspect lands around Brosan Brogan and Vale Oregon and the Bully Creek irrigation project. They gathered crop affidavits including corn onions potatoes oats barley and alfalfa with grand jury style figures, and noted late December fruit harvests and prize ribbons at Malleur county fair.

Grant Short of Camas is jailed in Vancouver on a charge of attacking James Self, Camas police justice, during a Christmas Day fight at the paper mill town. Self intervened and Short allegedly struck him with a rock. Short was brought to Vancouver by Constable W. W. Laws.
