Reclaiming 5000 Acres Through Inland water System
The plan aims to reclaim 5000 acres via a revised distributing system. Water supply from the feed canal lasts to July 1, with power at the AC drop to pump water 10 to 40 feet in remaining months. Additional drainage and seepage savings may occur. A northern strip and 1000 acres near Cold Springs station could be watered by pipeline and reservoir water, reducing per acre cost below 60 dollars. Officials expect the government to improve the present project rather than pursue a larger plan. The strategy ties lands to Hermiston. rivals could emerge, while Hinkle Ditch lands may or may not join. Four million dollars near Hermiston is seen as only a temporary benefit.
