Militia Rescues Negro From Mob In West Virginia
In Clarksburg West Virginia December 28 a militia company saved William Furby a black man from a mob. He was kept in vaults of Wells Fargo at a Weston railway station overnight to avert lynching. Furby allegedly attacked Florence Anglin a white girl who was returning from her father's dairy late Saturday night. Anglin said he dragged her about 100 yards and tried to strangle her before a railroad flagman intervened. Furby fled on horseback but the horse fell throwing him and he was captured with a dislocated shoulder.
