Chicago on December 1 26 a gas accident killed Morris Lukeman his wife and their two daughters Anne 16 and Lillian 15 overnight while stockings were being filled. A Christmas display and greeting notes were found under the girls pillows reading Merry Xmas for Mamma from Lilly. A magnified scent of gas led Isidore Hannon to discover the bodies in separate rooms the parents in one, the girls in bed with stockings. The event left the family dead for hours before discovery in the early morning.
Washington December 25 The House Interstate Committee reviews data for a government for the Canal Zone to replace the current district like status. Two proposals mirror the District of Columbia and Philippines models, with most residents being Panama or U.S. citizens, and Blackburn cited as effectively governing the zone.
A boy named Mapps fired at President Fallieres while dining at a crowded Paris restaurant. The bullet pierced the president’s ear causing a painful but not serious wound. Fallieres and the assailant grappled on the floor as women screamed and gendarmes restrained the attacker.

North Yakima Washington residents vote again on schoolhouse site in district No 8 after officials fail to settle the location before the election. The acting prosecuting attorney says the plan to pick the quarter section cannot stand and urges renewed ballot by the citizens who want a new school.

To Row Mill Day and Night Lewiston Idaho The Lewiston Milling company will operate night and day as additional machinery is installed. The mill cannot fill orders for local trade while export demand remains unmet this year. High grade Lewiston wheat is producing flour of a quality rivaling midwest hard wheats, boosting output and market position.
F Stinson of Weston was a visitor in the city yesterday afternoon, seen by several residents near downtown.
Pendleton reports a festive Christmas with special services at Baptist Methodist Catholic and Episcopal churches. Santa Claus visited homes and a cantata at the Baptist church featured Dr Santa Claus Cure with 36 performers. The Methodist cantata Kriss Kringle showcased 40 children in fairy roles with Miss Sadie Ford directing. Stores closed and merchants reported strong holiday business.
