In Los Angeles a building frame structure suffered an explosion with two blasts reported by Night Watchman Williams. Police say bombs are suspected after a machine shop employee described detonations. The incident echoes a 1910 plant bombing near the same site.
England’s Lord Northcliffe, dominant figure in British politics, declines a cabinet berth preferring to stay at Printing House Square and Carmelite House. He runs the Times and Evening Mail, instrumental in toppling the Asquith government.
A fire swept a wide area in Shamokin Pennsylvania driving residents into zero weather. Firefighters from half a dozen nearby towns aided as the blaze leaped up streets and ruined homes, leaving sixty families homeless in the devastated district.

New York December 18 Captain Weber and sixty one sailors of the transfer Sumner, aground at Barnes Gate New Jersey, abandoned the ship this afternoon. A revenue cutter and a tvanvers rescued the crew. Heavy seas buffeted the ship. She is expected to break up imminently.
The county court set state and county levy at 7.5 mills this afternoon to meet the budget. To keep the levy from rising, officials cut $200 from road funds and reduced general expenses. The distribution includes state and county general, schools, school library, indigent soldiers, and roads and highways with totals shown.
Jamen Foley, 55, jailed for murder, confessed to killing "Diamond Dutch" eighteen years ago during a Nome incident. Foley, wearing overalls and an overcoat, surrendered at the desk sergeant saying he was the killer and not crazy. Deputy sergeant confirmed names and dates as accurate. Foley implicated Dutch after Dutch killed Dublin McKey.
Beanstorff, after a Lansing visit, said Germany would present a complete statement of terms at a pace conference. He did not know the terms and offered to discuss disarmament and a league for permanent peace. He asked if the United States would supplement Germany's proposal, noting US decision not to urge subsections may discourage Germany.

Washington reports to the local Biological Survey detail a fiscal year campaign in which more than 15 000 predatory animals were killed by government hired trappers and hunters. Coyotes led with 11 490 slain, followed by bobcats 1 164 wolves 424 mountain lions nine and 2 086 other wild beings. Many poisoned carcasses were not recovered, reflecting a three method approach trapping shooting and poisoning. Most kills occurred in Western states where trablex has been common.
Portland dispatch reports the White Garage in Portland burned resulting in fifteen automobiles destroyed and about $25,000 in damage. The blaze started from spilled oil and injured no one.
Salem Dev 16 Roy Mc Henry eight years old has disappeared and police search empty houses. He vanished under similar circumstances a year ago and was found sleeping in a barrel.

Pioneer settler Nic McDonald dies at 72 after long illness. He lived near Pilot Rock in Umatilla County and was born in Tyree Scotland. Survived by wife, children Flora McDonald Monroe Alex McDonald Tim McDonald and others, plus grandchildren. Funeral Friday at 5:00 AM at Presbyterian church with Rev Snyder officiating. interment Weston Cemetery.
Police report a body found hanging from a tree in Portland identified as possibly Fred Jenicker of Vancouver Washington after reportedly hanging for about 20 hours. Authorities are investigating the death as a potential suicide or foul play.
