President Wilson and Secretary of State Lansing confer on peace suggestions to the Allies as the State Department awaits the American public’s reaction. High level talks focus on terms that could shape early postwar settlements and diplomatic posture.
In Washington on December 15 President Wilson and Secretary Lansing held a two hour conference on proposals to push peace discussions to the Allies. Lansing declined to speak after retirement, saying there is no conclusion to discuss. Officials say the State Department is unsure of American public opinion on peace moves and relies on newspaper comment for sentiment.
A Pendleton Meat Co. truck driven by Herbert Cricuit collided with a bicycle ridden by 10 year old Raley Peterson on West Court Street. The boy sustained a head gash and multiple bruises, was unconscious about 30 minutes, and was later taken home after a nearby doctor treated him.
The new St Mary's Catholic church at Alta and Court streets will be dedicated Sunday morning by Bishop Charles J. O'Reilly of the Barker diocese. Portland Telegram columnist David W. Hazen recounts the December 14 1942 flood in Pendleton and Umatilla County. The Umatilla River surged forcing residents to trees, washing away Sharon and Co sawmill and Senator Pennington's home, destroying bridges and rail lines, with Echo suffering damage and widespread transit disruption across the Willamette Valley.

Census Bureau officials outline planned investigations for the next year covering transportation by water religion marriages and divorces and city cost of living including cartage from rail to home sometimes exceeding rail transport costs for long hauls.

Also on December 15 Representative Campbell of Kansas introduced a bill to prevent combinations of powerful news print paper manufacturers who were harming and exploiting small newspaper publishers.
