Stanfield man creates sensation by exhibiting phenomenal white Wyandotte pullet carries off magnificent cup.Prize given by The Peoples Warehouse Pendleton Woolen Mill offers sweepstakes for beat pair of birds.
Tonight’s poultry show offers three prizes totaling 15 dollars. Winners can draw Buff Orpington pullet, setting Buff Orpington eggs, and a Black Minorca cockerel. Additional prizes are awarded each evening and door numbers drawn remain valid until selected from the box.
A larger audience enjoyed a strong musical program and a thriving poultry show. About 100 prize ribbons hung today with Stanfield Wing Cup winner noted for a 97 point white Wyandotte pullet. rival pens including Black Minorcas and Barred Rocks compete for top honors. Birds boasting high scores from New York and Ohio indicate national quality. The United Orchestra provides nightly music after the street concert, led by T. R. Barks as Pendleton Woolen Mills backs the grand sweepstakes prize for the best bird pair.
Henry Rosenthal, a wealthy Washington society man, was bound and gagged in a Cairo apartment as Mrs. James Knott and her husband James Alton Armstrong sought 5000. They aired compromising photos through a wall hole using a mercury lamp. Rosenthal alerted police. Knott and Armstrong were arrested for attempted blackmail.
Norton, Dec. 15 Nine miners were entombed in the Green mine at Tacoma Virginia after a collapse as rescue efforts continued. It is believed all are dead with nine bodies recovered and identified to date.
In Seattle harbor two fog bound collisions sink the steamers Kitsap and Columbia while the steel carrier Indianapolis also involved. Aubrey P Venen a passenger on the Columbia is the sole fatality. Captain B Eustis of the Columbia survives. The Kitsap carried eighty passengers and ten crew with no injuries.
Sixty one western railroad managers appealed to Washington for arbitration under the Erdman Act to avert a strike by engineers over wage increases. The railroads proposed nine percent, but engineers rejected it, having initially demanded 16 to 17 percent. Commissioners Knapp and Neill were expected to respond favorably.
Telegrams from the front report a Bedouin revolt near Adana Syria with Turkish troops rushing to the area. Eight American citizens are said to have been held up and robbed by rebels as relief forces move toward Kerak and Damascus sends reinforcements.

Lafayette Young of Iowa, in his maiden Senate speech, opposed Cummins plan to revise the tariff by schedules. He warned New England favors protection for manufactured goods and free trade for food, saying Massachusetts could trigger a new insurgent wave that would push toward free trade if protection falters. He argued Republicans helped elect Democrats by arguing for tariff revisions.
In Chicago during WW1 on December 15 a strikebreaker and a detective were killed when a mob overpowered them. Policeman Weinlck fired his revolver after being struck by stones, killing the striker P. Magrockisy. another assailant died in the melee and Welinicki led police escorting strikebreakers. An investigation suggests the fatal bullet came from the officer’s weapon.
Three thousand Pullman car porters on western lines petitioned for higher wages. They seek a flat monthly salary of 45 to 60 dollars, saying the current 83 1 2 cents per day fails to meet living costs. The note mentions Wall Street jitters and a Chinese credit figure of 56 million dollars.

Taxpayers will not pay the original assessed taxes, now enjoined from collection. The plaintiffs include Pendleton Building association Pendleton Realty Co T C Taylor J R Dickson Pen Meton Hotel Co Jessie Vert and others. The court says they owe about 60 percent of the original assessment.
Three hundred soldiers were killed or wounded in a battle near Guerrero between federal forces and insurgents. General Navarro led a dawn attack driving rebels to flight as cavalry pursued them. The fight began last night, resumed at daybreak, with rebels reinforced in a new position and another clash anticipated.
Chicago readers report about half a dozen alleged basket shops raided by police with proprietors and clerks arrested. They face charges of using the malls to defraud authorities. federal investigators had long been probing fraud complaints from victims nationwide. Prisoners were driven to jail, with plans rumored for larger raids ahead.
Mary Chamberlain wife of George Chamberlain a moving picture show proprietor admitted witnessing the affray and feeling responsible for the tragedy. Andrew Massin a shingle maker lay in bed when the husband burst in and Massin was stabbed as he drew a gun. Both were jolled but no charges have been filed yet.

With terms ending for county officers the court adjourns for December 20 to hire an expert to review all officials books for errors or frauds. The last audit two years ago found minor errors under E A Johnson, while four years ago a major shortage arose from the embezzlement of Sheriff Chief Deputy C P Davis, leading to his imprisonment. An expert will be chosen at the December 20 meeting, though selection is not settled.
Washington D C Dec 15 The Senate confirmed the appointment of Judge Van Devanter and Judge Luiiuar as associate justices of the Supreme Court today.
Koife Very Low is in serious condition after being stabbed in Adams by Louis La course. Reports say blood poisoning may have set in and friends fear possible. The incident stems from a quarrel over a young lady. Joe M Bean is the young man involved.

East end deputies pursue two men James Blake and Jick McCarty after a Dry Creek theft yield. A revolver and stolen items are found. both suspects are brought to Pendleton.
A. E. Lambert, longtime figure at Armenian Neonat bank and Gear in Powder Vat ley State Bank, has been elected mayor of North Powder. He won the town election by a small margin and will assume duties tomorrow in the little town.
