Oregon Country as a Great Future for Manufacturing

The piece notes the region’s large area, rich forests and minerals, and the shift from east imports to local production, powered by water potential, with Portland's industry already substantial and growing. It envisions rivers powering mills and rail and telegraph power spreading, predicting rapid regional wealth and development beyond Pennsylvania.

Oregon Inquiries Pour Into Portland Club Staff
The Portland Commercial club receives about 600 letters daily about Oregon resources and opportunities, many from midwestern farmers seeking relocation to the Pacific Northwest. The inquiries cover soil, climate, products, and people, with languages including German, Swedish, Polish, and English. The Oregon Development league distributes the questions, guiding farmers, fruit growers, dairymen, and manufacturers to suitable conditions and opportunities across western Oregon.
