Saved From The Sugar Trust In California Lands Battle
The Klamath Falls editor reveals alleged sugar trust attempts to seize swamp lands along Lower Klamath Lake before California ceded them to the federal government. Critics claim the state lost 60 000 but the lands would open to homesteaders in 40 acre tracts, adding hundreds of families, while reclaimation costs and higher prices avoided by land grabbers. The aim was to rent or sell to sugar beet growers for a factory supply.
