Flames destroy Elmer Thompson house at Echo

Echo Oregon December 6 The Elmer Thompson family narrowly escaped death as their Elder ranch home near Echo burned to the ground after a heater stove likely caused the fire. The Thompains, formerly of Pendleton, crawled through a window to escape when doors jammed. The house housed the Alder dairy ranch operation and was partly insured.

Double murder and death by own action in Seattle

Seattle, Dec. 6. A double murder and death by own action occurred in Laisquah, a mining town near here. Frank Bergan Dorgan shot and killed his wife, a two year old child, and then himself. He had been married six months and the woman had recently arrived from Germany with her son. A threatened divorce was the motive.

Treasury Secretary McAdoo urges Congress to extend the War Risk Insurance Bureau for another year beyond its September 2 1917 expiration. Pendleton Snowstorm Halts Seeding and Delays Travel

Pendleton received its first real snowfall of the season, about three to four inches by nightfall, with a strong wind creating drifting. Stephen A Hampton Dies At Pendleton Farm Leader

Stephen A Hampton 12 31 1854 67 died at home after paralysis and pneumonia. A prominent Pendleton farmer, he owned land north of town and leaves a wife two sons Claude and Otis, siblings and several nieces and nephews. Funeral set for 2 PM tomorrow at the family residence.
