Frank Johnson, a Boston wool buyer, returned from Harney country claiming a contract for 1,000,000 pounds of the 1905 Harney county clip at 15 cents per pound. He spent three weeks in Steen's Mountain district buying 1605 wool, predicting higher prices next season while warning that Congress may alter wool tariff levels and disrupt the market. He says the purchase removes the cream of the clip, leaving less for next spring buyers, noting Idaho could have reached 17 cents.

The body of Dr RK H Barber superintendent of Gardiner hospital was found in a 14 foot tank at the government Jetty works after he disappeared Thursday night while riding to Florence 20 miles away. He crossed a river in darkness, followed a wrong path and fell into the tank. His horse was found near the bluff and footprints traced the route he took before the fatal fall.
James N Tyner former postmaster general in Grant era died at his Washington home at 6:55 am. He headed the postal department and was later removed as assistant attorney general of the post office department. He and nephew Harrison J Barrett faced conspiracy charges over a penny stock case but were acquitted.
New York December at 7 this morning all contestants had covered 167.2 miles in six days of cycling and set a world record pace. Soane Falling Betatnd led with 197.1 miles as others trailed. The Italian team king and Rosiito quit four hours after start. Patsy Keegan of Lowell sustained facial injuries in an early spill.
In Haymond Montana two tragic child accidents occurred. A 2 month old baby girl of Hiram Whitenden died after falling from her brother's arms and hitting her head. In another incident a 5 year old daughter of John W Len died after tumbling into a tub of wedding water while playing in the kitchen.
A passenger train from Portland was delayed for over an hour after a drive wheel came loose from Engine No 190 near the Columbia River by Umatilla. The wheel ripped a platen rod but did not derail the entire train. another engine was dispatched from Umatilla and the damaged locomotive was taken away for repairs.
Portland December reports show Lewin and Clark Coine offering Lewis and Clark souvenir gold dollars at two dollars each. Demand is strong and a 25,000 coin supply is expected to exhaust. The 1904 dated two headed design honors Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with United States of America on one side and Lewis on the other. A Portland Commercial Club committee of 60 young women organized a selling effort and urged every Oregon man to swear one coin.
A westbound Missouri Pacific train derailed one mile east of Holden at the Post Oak valley bridge in heavy rain. Forty eight people were injured, many seriously, as cars plunged into a creek and the bridge broke apart. The wreck followed a disrupted order at Centerview and occurred about three miles west of Doran near Warrensburg.

In Chicago wheat prices, December wheat opened at 1.04, closed 1.11 and a quarter. May wheat opened 1.11 and a half, closed 1.73 and a quarter. Oats opened 0.26, closed 0.26.
John Maxwell, a farmer near Irving, was arrested for possessing scabby sheep in his pockets without county stock permits. He appeared before Justice Wintermeter and was fined 9.25. AWG Mathews, county stock inspector, leads a crackdown on violators of the monk law aiming to stamp out the abuse.
After months idle amid litigation, the Virtue mine eight miles east of Baker City restarts. A large crew left Saturday to resume work, and the old mine will run at full capacity once water is pumped from lower levels. The Virtue has long been a major gold producer in Eastern Oregon.
The German bank in Buffalo closed its doors this morning after a run on deposits. President Emery of the German-American Society presided over the action as customers withdrew funds.
Reports from San Bernardino detail a Santa Fe Express train hold up between Daggett and Ludlow. A messenger was shot and wounded, robbers, including a white and a negro assailant, escaped with cash and drafts totaling about 8,000. The wounded messenger later died.
Raker City businessman Mead learned from Nye County Nevada that he inherits a Tonopah Gold Field property valued at 250000. He plans to depart for Tonopah then Baker City to manage affairs.
