Walters Eyes Pouring Mill Targeting Baker City
Fred Walters of Pendleton and his son visited Baker City to assess a pouring mill site. Walters owns Farmers’ Custom Mills of Pendleton with 500 barrels capacity and emphasized the need for sufficient wheat and power. Baker Irrigation’s W F Watson guided them, noting that local wheat supply would need growth and that farmers should pledge acreage to support a 100 barrel mill for a year. Henry Clews argues in The New York press that the damage from Wall Street decline stems from excess and corporate dishonesty. He says Roosevelt’s policy is correcting excesses, not causing ruin, and urges imprisonment of wrongdoers to lift confidence and restore value.
