Santos-Dumont Plans Wireless Tie Between Airships and Earth
At the St. Louis World's Fair Santos-Dumont discussed with Marconi manager W W Bradfield a plan to use a lightweight Marconi wireless telegraphy set to establish communications with airships during the 1904 aerial displays. Santos has learned the wireless alphabet and aims to bring the transmitter receiver and batteries aboard an airship, weighing only a few pounds, to accompany him on flights. The inventor notes that traveling alone is lonely, but a wireless companion would ease the trip.
