A warrant has been issued for Roy Twist an 18 year old barber apprentice on charges of statutory rape involving a girl named Bessie Patterton aged 16 who is said to be in a delicate condition. Twist reportedly left the city and is believed bound for San Francisco.
Public Land States divided into nine districts to station special inspectors. Each district will have its own inspector with $1500 salary plus $3 daily expenses and a $1000 clerk, totaling $40,600 yearly. Inspectors will oversee other inspectors to prevent fraud in West land offices. Thomas B. Newhausen will head Oregon. Edward W. Dixon will head Washington.

The Mitchell News reports J Stewart Kaye from Dayville attempted suicide in Mitchell with morphine overdose. He was shaved by doctors then planned to go to Fossil by stage. On the road he took more morphine and died several miles from Fossil. the stage driver delivered the body to Fossil for a inquest.
H Moidatrom of Despain Gulch sold 7000 bushels of bluestem wheat today in this place at 76 cents per bushel.
Chicago August 10 400 strikers attacked near Armour yards as scab butchers worked two or three hands to keep packing plants running. Cattle were killed dragged away and fences torn. police arrived as mobs clashed with corral crews injuring Frank Krupa and others. Union officials plan to dispatch investigators to Kansas City Saint Paul St. Joseph and Indianapolis to assess local conditions.
A Mannino boy identified Angelo Cucozza as his kidnapper at the police station. Cucozza attempted to harm him but was stopped. They rode to Manhattan, stayed in a tenement, and a woman cared for the boy before he was eventually returned home with the uncle meeting him at the ferry. Police follow clues from the boy. In a separate case John Massam and Edward Watching are jailed for drugging Edward Foy in Golilon's saloon and robbing him of $20. The New York News-Letter for August 6 focuses on the Lewis and Clark fair.
A cyclone raced through North St Louis at 2 55 PM August 19 toppling the Neider nghaus Steaming Mill. Ten were killed and over forty injured as about a score of homes were blown down. The central business district felt no impact.

The National Grange will be welcomed to Portland in November 1904 with strong attendance from Washington and Oregon. Masters Messia Leedy of Oregon and Whig of Washington will lead efforts to display farm and garden products and boost membership, signaling renewed vigor for the Grange work ahead.
The Church of the Immaculate Conception was dedicated Sunday morning August 14 by Catholicn Rev Father Laink of Sublimity assisted by Father Bore eke and Frobela of Mt Ange. The 40 by 70 foot church, a fine structure, will cost about 2600 when completed, a credit to Stayton.
