Thaw arrives at Pittsfield Massachusetts and after spending the night in a hotel escapes again. Authorities everywhere have been notified to be on watch for him.
Deputy Sheriff George Strand thwarted a fourth jail break at the county jail last week as inmates used steel spring saws to breach bars. Julia Walker known as Red Wings is accused of urging the men, while her brother-in-law S W Jordan led the plot. Five or six ex convicts contribute to ongoing trouble, with a grand jury and court set to decide transfers to the penitentiary.
A statewide and interregional manhunt unfolds as Harry Thaw, murderer of Stanford White, fled Matteawan Institute in an escape aided by five confederates. Reports place him at Lenox Hotel in Pittsfield and heading toward Massachusetts with authorities questioning extradition prospects.
Portland Aug 18 at 12 30 Ethel Boothby remained unconscious as doctors met to assess injuries. Physicians voiced slim hopes for recovery amid the uncertain condition.
Miss Ethel Boothby youngest daughter of William Boothby of this city and a former Pendleton resident lies in St. Vincent's hospital with a fractured skull after a collision at East Seventh and Mason streets in Portland yesterday. The accident at 3 o'clock involved Paul Sehiewe and Roy Griffith driving separate cars. several others were injured as two autos were wrecked. The injured clerk at Portland Railway, Light & Power remains unconscious. prognosis unclear.
Seattle, Aug 18. Pacific Coast Steamship Co reports no details on the State of California sinking in southeastern Alaska after sailing Aug 18 from Seattle to Skagway and Sitka. The ship carried 44 passengers besides crew. eight are reported lost.
Salem dispatch reports Attorney General Crawford travels to Bandon to investigate the deportation of Dr. Leach. He will report findings to Coos county courts and offer prosecutions recommendations for those responsible.
Photo-Engravers in Session in Cleveland Ohio on August 18 as the International Photo-Engravers Union of North America meets to lower initiation fees and dues and elect officers. The convention continues through Saturday with main business underway.

He warned against timber company driven land locators and noted reclamation bonds are a market drug. He urged elimination of speculators, admitting it is hard to identify them until action is needed.
