Albany August 15. Governor Sulzer’s advisor James Garrison states that Tammany Hall paid cash to four legislators to secure votes for impeachment and used money to sway wavering votes. He promises proof and warns key conspirators face jail.
A three member committee including George Putnam of Medford George W Orton of Portland and Carrie Mayter of Dallas was appointed to appraise the printing plant once owned by the late Mr Duniway for potential purchase by the state The flat salary law appropriates 20000 for the purchase of a plant.
A cyclone struck the village of Douglas on the Minneapolis Saint Paul and Seault Ste. Marie line north of Bismarck. The town was practically demolished with tracks buried under debris and injuries reported though no confirmed deaths. Telegraph and telephone lines are down delaying full damage assessment. A second windstorm hit Winnipeg causing glass windows to break and heavy property damage along main streets as services fail.

Jy P Walker eastern Oregon representative at the head camp WOW Colorado Springs returned home and said it is very probable that Pacific Jurisdiction W O W will break away from the eastern order to form a national organization to be known as Pacific Woodmen or by another suitable title. Action rests with head officials and will be taken soon. Walker was named head sentry at the session and will return next year. On the journey home he was in a train wreck and suffered a severe shake to
James Simerly, a farm worker, is under arrest in Helix on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon after a barroom fight at the Taylor saloon. Jacob Hess, bartender, was stabbed twice and treated for injuries not believed fatal. Marshal Saunders arrested Limerly and brought him to Pendleton. Limerly claims Hess attacked first.
In Portland Oregon on August 15 a riot erupted between the old Jongshormen union and a new body. About 200 people joined the melee before police dispersed the mob. The clash left only minor injuries such as bloody noses and black eyes. Old union members say the new group is run by industrialists intent on causing trouble.
Washington Aug 15 Congress will remain in session until snow files and, if needed, prolong the extra session into December to handle tariff and currency legislation. The Democratic Senate caucus adopted a resolution saying Congress should proceed to consider currency and banking legislation immediately after the pending tariff bill. The plan does not bind a fixed currency policy. Senator Simmons said the action signals willingness to stay as long as needed and could pressure Republicans.
In Nanaimo and surrounding towns about 900 militiamen occupy the strike area including Ladysmith South Wellington and Cumberland. The center of disaffection has moved to Cumberland where a clash with the Vancouver Highlanders regiment is hourly expected.
Philadelphia Aug 15 Avia tor Bergdoll with his mechanic ascended this morning and flew to Hammondton New Jersey at a pace of a mile a minute en route to Atlantic City Asbury Park and Trenton along the route and plans a further tour of the region.
Secretary of the Interior Franklin K. Lane plans a three day stay in Oregon possibly including Pendleton and the Umatilla reservation. A Hermiston stop is probable to view the West Umatilla project with reception details pending, as local observers await confirmation.

In Rye Valley Baker county Oregon Lawrence Cartwright a wealthy rancher killed Mrs George Cartwright wife of his brother and wounded William Powell before fatally shooting himself The clash followed a family quarrel as the party prepared to go huckleberrying Powell escaped on horseback and Cartwright then died by suicide Local officials including Sheriff Rand DA Goodwin and Coroner West headed to the scene.
Walter Adams of the Northern Pacific announces two additional rail specials for the Round-up period. The Tacoma Commercial Club plans a return excursion train, and the N P will run from Grangeville Idaho through Lewiston and Clarkston to Pendleton. The Eastern Oregon Medical society will hold its annual convention in Pendleton to view the show. Reservations in the grandstand are made for delegates. Lieutenant Governor Louis F Hart of Washington declines attendance due to business in Minneapolis but sends best wishes to Pendleton.
In San Francisco on August 15 the government finished its case after testimonies from Miss Norris Miss Nel Barton and Martin Beasley detailing the scandal linked to Diggs Caminetti. Beasley described girls eager for parental forgiveness while Barton recounted attempts to induce perjury to shield Diggs. Defense began presenting evidence at 2 p.m.

Washington Ore Aug 15 The senate adopted the democratic amendment placing wheat on the free list by 87 to 32, striking out the 10 per cent per bushel tariff rate fixed by the house democrats. A later motion to set duties failed 37 to 31, with Ransdell and Thornton of Louisiana voting with Republicans.

Washington August 16 Postmaster General Burleson announced changes to parcel post rules effective today The new weight limit for first and second zones rises to 20 pounds and the postage rate for parcels over four ounces becomes five cents for the first pound plus one cent for each additional pound or fraction Fresh meats and perishable items may be mailed to offices in both first and second zones when properly wrapped and enclosed If profits meet expectations further rate reductions and higher weights are planned for next year
