Persistent rioting continues through the night leaving twenty three injured. Unguarded cars become targets of strikers and cars are used in demonstrations while police refuse mayoral orders to ride at night. Several Carmen are reported injured amid the unrest.
Columbus Aug 13 22 policemen were suspended for failing to protect traction company during a strike their vacancies promptly filled by sworn-in patrolemen with over 100 civilians volunteering to serve.
In Columbus, Ohio, Aug 13, police mutiny reduced night shift car staffing, 23 injured as rioters attacked crews. 35 officers refused to ride, sparking dismissals. Mayor Marshall pressed regulars and 137 special police to riot duty amid widespread unrest. Two women and a child were shot during clashes.
Aug 13 Portland reports Mrs. W. A. Castner sleeping on a fourth floor balcony when she toppled to the ground. A patrolman witnessed the fall and rushed her to the hospital. doctors fear she may not survive the fractured skull and severe injuries.
The mayor stated there would be enough officers to man the 60 cabs the company expected to operate last night. He noted police presence was arranged to ensure order and safety during the rollout.
Washington reports Dr Barrioia met with the state department to push recognition for the Madriz faction of Nicaragua led by General Salinas. The department indicated no change in policy toward the Madrid Estrada dispute, recognizing neither side unless American interests suffer.

Harriman railroad leaders Judge Robert S. Lovett and James P. OBrien plan a Pendleton stop tomorrow or Monday morning. A Portland-bound special train will carry them for an inspection of the Deschutes road improvements between Pendleton and Yoakum, with a stop likely in Pendleton for a short visit. Lovett announced the Deschutes link will extend south to connect with the Klammath Natron line.
Seven were injured when an electric car traveling from Oregon City collided head on with freight cars five miles south of Portland. The impact hurled passengers from their seats and several were severely jolted. The injured were taken to area hospitals.
The body of Harvey W. Scott arrived in Portland today and will lie in state from two to four this afternoon. The funeral is planned for tomorrow.

Armour and Co’s assessment rose to 14.45 million, Morris and Co held at 1.25 million, Libby-McNeill Libby up from 420 thousand to 460 thousand.

Seward Alaska Aug 13 The floating court aboard the revenue cutter Rush with Judge Cushman presiding is returning to Seward after completing its season of work In Alaska the court disposed of cages against three Japanese schooners seized for fishing and sealing violations Twenty eight Japanese were sentenced to three months in jail Numerous other cases were tried This was the first attempt to hold a floating court.
