United States Geological Survey Bulletin examines flood and waste water conservation in Colorado. It notes that irrigation is most developed in the South Platte and Arkansas valleys with extensive storage works built to capture winter flow and flood discharges. Studies by A L Fellows show 300 to 800 cubic feet per second flowing during winter 1901 02, totaling about 15 000 acre feet over five months, enabling future reservoir sites and greater reuse via return seepage as irrigation expands. The report argues reservoir expansion could continue for a long time, delaying reclamation limits on the South Platte.
London reports the Assouan dam will be inaugurated in December with the Prince of Wales and General Kitchener in attendance. The dam completes the Nile reservoir project, enabling two crops a year on vast lands and increasing sugar cultivation. The reservoir yields 1,000,000 cubic meters of water annually. the dam spans 1.5 miles with 180 openings and steel sluice gates.
Heavy rains Tuesday washed out tracks and damaged bridges on the Rio Grande and Colorado Midland railroads. Damage totals reach $100,000 with seven Rio Grande bridges missing and multiple miles of track washed away. the Midland suffered three destroyed bridges and inundated track.
