Prices paid to local producers by Pendleton merchants include eggs at 45 cents a dozen hens at 2 1/2 cents per pound and spring chickens at 2 1/2 cents per pound. Best quality bacon 4 cents, butter fat 69 cents per roll fob Pendleton, potatoes with new at 34 1/4 cents per pound, old at 2.25 to 2.50 per 100 pounds. Apples plentiful with Yellow Trong boxes $1.75 to $2.15, Red June $2.50, shipped from Milton and Freewater. Milton watermelons arrive with producers paid 1 cent per pound, California melons 3 1/4 to 3 1/2 cents retail. Apricots near end of season at 1 cent per pound, celery cheaper at 1 head, green corn 9 to 10 cents a dozen, beans 12 1/2 cents per pound. Grapes from California arrive at $1.25 a basket, green variety. Libby McNeill Libby to raise Yakima contract price on pears from 22.60 to 35.40 per ton, adding about $15 for growers under contract to supply 1209 tons. Some suits in superior court over contract terms as growers previously sold outside. Near harvest starts next week with 69 a ton opening price.
