Washington officials debate cheaper bread and wheat policy as a five cent loaf possible. Government may take over supply and sell at a loss to lower prices, with wheat price reforms and consumer relief tied to preserved farmer support and broader food cost reductions.
John Dolph buys the H. W. Collins residence at 909 Thompson Avenue from EL Nelson, with no price disclosed. The Collins family occupant remains, following Nelson's prior sale after a Portland transfer. Dolph recently returned from overseas service with the American Expeditionary Forces.

In Memphis Tennessee a brass band led editor Edward Leech of the Memphis Press in a flower decorated car bearing the banner The Shame of It All. He received a 16 day sentence for alleged contempt of court after publication of an editorial directed at Chancellor Peres though Leech argued the piece was general in tone. A crowd followed with 50 cars, cheering as Leech was taken to a jail cell filled with flowers and a brand new white bed provided by friends.
