NOXIONUS WEEDS Vedouble Suggestions as to Their Eradication
Pendleton Oregon July 31 This scientific observer notes two troublesome weeds in Umatilla County. One is Lactuca biennis with milklike juice from the stem and an opiumlike inner. the other is a Convolvulus variety misnamed as Morning Glory. Roots survive yearly, so eradication requires destroying roots and repeated cultivation. Suggestions include digging near surface, shallow cutting, smothering, and using salt, coal oil, or acids on freshly cultivated roots, with frequent cultivation to keep chemicals effective. Sheep can aid, and careful removal of green growth before cold weather helps. Respectfully W H Bleakney Principal Pendleton Academy.
