Washington April 26 A French deputy high commissioner says the struggle on the west front may last months. He praises American morale and confidence in victory, noting the United States will bear the burden at home and overseas as it fights with allied forces.
Umatilla County chapter of the Red Cross reports large output for November through February. The auxiliary shipped 1088 eventeners, 174 pairs of stockings, 136 corsets, and 54 uniforms, plus 8674 total garments from the Tow piel department including 1250 pajama sets and 1373 bed jackets.

Mrs. Mariha Narclesa Sawtelle, former Fen-geton resident and mother of Hoyul M. Sawtelle, died yesterday in Los Angeles after stomach complications. Born Corvallis Oregon July 3, 1863, she married Frederick H. Sawtelle in 1873 and lived in Pendleton before moving to Los Angeles four years ago. Survived by five children, arrangements not set. body to Pendleton for burial.
Norris J. Graham, 11, son of Horton S. Graham of Penley, is credited with selling over 2100 dollars worth of Thrift Stamps. The boy traveled to solicit purchases, attending Lincoln School, and aimed to mobilize peers to invest quarters for the campaign, despite stopping only when his own funds finished.
