Simmonds a 28 year old West Fork section hand swallowed nearly half an ounce of laudanum on a city porch. A policeman, advised by a physician, saved his life with emetic and four hours of walking. Roseburg Oregon April 22 Charles a widower, despondent after Mrs Vidgie May Winniham aged 36 and mother of four spurned his marriage proposal, took laudanum. He was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital where his condition was reported as serious. Authorities investigated the case as a possible accidental overdose.
