First Sunday closures hit Pasco and Kennewick
The two Washington towns Pasco and Kennewick joined Umatilla county by enforcing Sunday closing for the first time. No liquor or cigars could be bought, with only a few druggists exception. The Crystal theatre held a sacred concert, and hotels and restaurants stayed open. The new criminal code, effective June 12, will relax bans on some Sunday sales. Kennewick’s long standing tavern tradition ended as Prosser ordered saloons to honor the Sabbath.
