Tin Mine Near Spokane Important Discovery
A government report details the discovery of tin ore cassiterite at Silver Hill southeast of Spokane Washington in 1907. Prospecting began in March 1907 after earlier work on metalliferous deposits and coal and a 1906 identification by Richard Marsh. The finding drew national interest from a lack of prior Washington tin, with geologist Arthur Collier visiting in 1907 and again in October. The information appears in the USGS advance chapter of Bulletin No. 340 Part I of Contributions to Economic Geology 1907.
