Prairie City Plainsmen held off Monroe Wildcat late surge to win 22 12 in Monroe. Key sequences included Dennis Thompson catches from Dan Schuring and Mick Trier scoring after a Monroe fumble. Gene Lucas 52 yard run sealed the Plainsmen victory as Monroe drops to 2 4 in the conference. Wildcats head to New Sharon to meet North Mahaska Warhawks.

Patricia Butin reports the Lynnville Sully School District marching band directed by Donovan Musgrove earned I ratings at the State Marching Contest in Olwein on Oct 13, adding to a prior Oct 6 trophy from the Quwein Band Festival. The Des Moines River Valley Vocal Festival returns November 3 at Lynnville Sully High School gym at 7 30 p m with Dr Allen Lehl of Drake University directing and serving as clinician. Participating schools include Colfax New Monroe Twin Cedars Eddyville Pleasantville Prairie City North Mahaska and Lynnville Sully. About 400 mixed voices perform a program of Schuman Mendelssohn Bart Mancini and Kingsley works with school ensembles to follow during intermission.
