In an early Tuesday incident in Prairie City, several clothing items were stolen from O. R. Fleming family lines at Eatwell place. The missing articles were not noticed by night marshal Mr. Eatwell until Mrs. Fleming discovered the shortage while fetching the laundry. Local authorities have no trace of the stolen items.
A D Burey a retired farmer of South Main Street died Friday morning after shooting himself with a shotgun in the bathroom of his home. He had been in town earlier and left notes of no discernible reason. Friends say he mourned Mrs Busey’s death years ago, which may have driven the act.
Monroe Mirror reports night officer Jonas Barr suspects a single individual stole blankets from cots in the city jail on Monday. The missing property, needed for laundering before fall and winter business, prompts calls to identify and return the items.
Delta's Nelse Reed, in poor health, apparently killed himself with a Number 410 shotgun in his car on Coal Bank Road near Delta. His body was found by Ollie Oliver and Ray Virgil after another driving and earlier attempts with a 38 revolver left five bullet holes, plus gunshot incidents. Neighbors recalled his goodbye phrases as the tragedy unfolded.
Veda Bell, five, daughter of Mr and Mrs Chess Bell, resides seven miles west of Newton in Sherman township. She is the third Jasper county child struck by infantile paralysis in recent weeks. Illness began midweek, diagnosed at University Hospital Iowa City as infantile paralysis, and she has been placed in isolation.
Ex-Gov. Henry O. Lowden welcomed five Iowa State College recognized master farm homemakers at a Memorial Union ceremony last Friday night. The honor, sponsored by The Farmer’s Wife magazine and supported by ISU extension, joins nine other states in honoring farm women.

Two Colfax children, Leota May Cross eight and Mildred six, were seriously hurt in Jasper County over the weekend. Leota suffered broken ribs a lung injury and severe bruises while Mildred fractured a leg when struck Sunday morning by a car driven by Mrs. W M Maier of Marshalltown. Maier and himself were in the car. Both girls were hospitalized and were getting along as well as could be expected.
The Cross family of Colfax are identified as relatives. In Lynnville an unusual accident occurred when Lester Vander Pol of Chester fell asleep while driving near midnight Saturday and crashed his roadster into a light pole between the Coop residence and the Savage restaurant. He escaped with a small chin cut.
Bair of Newton received a broken bone in one shoulder when his car was struck by Thomas L. Jackson’s vehicle near the courthouse square. Jackson backed away from the curb and Bair attempted to swerve past, but collided. Neither car was seriously damaged.
Edward L. Daley posed as an American Legion man and visited Sigourney last Thursday, telling a slick sob story to a group. Authorities warn residents to verify credentials before aiding anyone claiming Legion affiliation.

Reports from Commander Ballensky indicate similar cons have occurred in multiple towns, with victims contacted via a return letter and a plea to verify the fraud.
